Office Hours:
Our staff can be reached during office hours, 8:30 am to 6:00 pm, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday. and from 8:30 to 5:00 pm on Wednesday. If your child is sick and you think you need to see a doctor the same day, DO NOT leave a voice mail message. Instead, press “0”, for the operator and someone will come on the line. Voice mail messages should only be left for non-emergency calls. All calls will be returned as soon as possible, and no later than the following day. Examples for the use of voice mail are for making a routine appointment or canceling an appointment, billing questions, or requests for authorization for a referral. Authorizations include school physicals, day care forms, information on Well-Child Care, information on shots, and refills. When leaving a message, always make sure your name and phone number are clearly stated so we can return your call. After Office Hours, Weekends & Holidays: After the office is closed, please call (510) 797-7766, dial “0” to reach our answering service and they will connect you to either a physician on-call or a Pediatric Advice Nurse. If your child needs medical care in the evening, weekends, or holidays, he/she will be seen by the physician on- call in the Emerrgency Room. Every on-call physician is highly trained in all aspects of pediatrics and we ask for your support when it becomes necessary to see someone other than your usual physician. You and the on-call doctor can determine if your child needs to be examined by a doctor.

Call your pharmacy
If you call us for an appointment or information, our staff will assist you. If you wish to speak to a doctor, please leave your name and phone number with the receptionist, and we will call you as soon as possible. If your child is ill or you have questions regarding his/her condition, please feel free to call the office. It is best to call during office hours.

Medication refills are handled only during regular office hours. Call your pharmacy for refills before you have used all of your medication, at least 24 hours for authorization to refill the prescription. In certain circumstances, a repeat office visit may be required before the medication is refilled. Try to anticipate your medication needs before weekends and holidays. Please do not ask us to prescribe medication by phone for illnesses we have not had an opportunity to evaluate in person. Potential medical risk far outweighs any advantage gained in convenience.

Medical Records
All medical records are kept strictly confidential and will not be disclosed without your written permission. If your child is a new patient to this office, please sign a Release of Records form at the front desk for us to obtain medical records from your child’s previous doctor.

The office hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday 8:30 am to 6:00 pm, and Wednesday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. For your convenience, and same-day appointments are available upon request. We leave adequate space in the schedule to accommodate sick patients who need to be seen right away. The earlier in the day you can call for an appointment, the easier it will be to obtain a convenient time. If you need to have more than one child seen, please notify the office prior to your appointment time. Except for emergencies, office visits are by appointment only.

When scheduling a well-child appointment, please call a few weeks in advance so that a convenient time may be set up for you. Please call 24 hours in advance to cancel your appointment to avoid cancellation charge. This courtesy allows us to offer the appointment to another patient.

Examination Schedules
We follow the schedule recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics. Infants are examined about six times in the first year, and two or three times in the second year. We recommend yearly physical exams to the age of five or six. After this age, complete physical exams can be given less frequently if there are no ongoing health problems. Physical exams are generally required at 2 or 3-year intervals for purposes of camp or sports. A good way to remember complete physical examinations is to schedule them at about the time of your child’s birthday. Please bring your child’s immunization record during all visits.

Emergency Calls
Fortunately, true emergencies are rare, but when they do occur they demand prompt action. We suggest that in a true emergency the child’s needs be best served by taking him/her directly to the hospital emergency room nearest to your home. Proper equipment is available there, and a physician trained in emergency care is available 24 hours a day. The hospital will be able to reach your physician when necessary. If the emergency is life threatening, call 911.
