Dr. Hari Puri has been a pediatrician since 1968, and Dr. Veena Puri has been a pediatrician since 1970. Since 1998 Drs. Hari and Veena Puri have been receiving the Best Physician’s Award, which is voted by their peers and medical patients. This is a testimony to the excellence of care provided to everyone at Puri Pediatric Medical Group. Drs. Hari and Veena Puri are proud parents of two successful college graduates. Their daughter graduated from the University of Chicago, and is currently working as a pediatrician in Irvine, California. She recently finished her residency from Children’s Hospital in Orange County, California. Their son is pursuing a career in International Affairs in Washington DC. Dr. Remo Cerruti has been a pediatrician since 1963 and has been working in Fremont since 1970.
Veena Puri, MD, FAAP
Dr. Veena Puri has been practicing pediatrics in Fremont since 1981 and is now taking care of some of her patients’ children. She has been twice Chairperson of the Department of Pediatrics at Washington Hospital and is very actively involved in Washington Hospital community. Dr. Veena Puri, fondly addressed as “Dr. Veena” by her patients, has a special passion for new mothers and issues of breastfeeding. She is very comfortable working with all mothers no matter how different their problems are. She is a strong advocate of breastfeeding and attributes a lot of her success to early training in her career as a pediatrician in Delhi, India. ”She is one of the best breastfeeding consultants,” quoting many of her patients. Even after 20+ years, Dr. Veena remembers how she helped them breastfeed, till today she works with mothers and fathers with breastfeeding. We have two rooms dedicated to breastfeeding with all the support, including a lot of visual and audio material. Dr. Veena encourages and appreciates the involvement of the fathers in the process and makes herself available to them as much as her schedule allows. She has patients coming from far and near with all different types of insurances, including Kaiser to seek her valuable advice and guidance. Dr. Veena also has a special interest in Sports Medicine. She believes in regular excercise and healthy nutrition. She works well with overweight patients and patients with high cholesterol. She herrself does daily yoga and believes it to be the best tool for nurturing mind, body and soul.
Anamika Sharma, MD, FAAP
Dr. Anamika Sharma has been taking care of infants, children and teenagers in different settings since 1996, when she graduated from medical college. She comes to Puri Pediatric Medical Group with in-depth training and wide experience in office and hospital based pediatrics including taking care of newborns in the hospital.
Dr. Sharma’s style of gentle approach to the child makes an instant connection in working as a team with parents and children, especially pre-teens, teenagers and young adults. Having a 10 year old son at home, she understands the challenges of raising children, especially in a dual culture. As a working mother, she knows the value of balancing work and parenting. Her special interests include breast feeding, weight issues and Ear, Nose and Throat problems. Dr. Sharma practices state of the art medicine which is what Puri Pediatrics is known for.
After graduating from Medical College in Calcutta, India, Dr. Sharma completed her pediatric residency from Charles Drew University in Los Angeles, where she also completed an internship in Ear, Nose and Throat. She worked as a hospitalist at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek. She is an active member of the prestigious American Academy of Pediatrics. She belongs to all insurances which Puri Pediatrics takes.
Besides being fluent in English, Dr. Sharma speaks multiple languages Hindi, Urdu, Bengali, Nepali and Spanish. In her spare time, she likes to write stories, cook, and spend time with her son.
Deepali Lal, MD
Dr. Deepali Lal is a new addition to our experienced team of excellent pediatricians where quality comes first. Dr. Deepali has been in private practice in Daily city for last several years and balances the quality of her care with high patient satisfaction rate. She has a kind, compassionate and caring mannerism, and excellent working relationships with staff and colleagues. Dr. Deepali is an individual thinker, a team player, along with her excellent communication, inter-personal, and organizational skills. Dr. Deepali is originally from New Delhi, India and so she relates well, especially, to the patients from the Asian sub-continent and is very respectful of the culture, and traditions. She is very familiar with feeding and eating practices of people from India trying to balance East and West traditions and foods. Besides English, she is fluent in Hindi and Spanish.
Dr. Deepali Lal is a California state licensed pediatrician with over 15 years of experience. The last two years have been in the Bay area in both private and community pediatrics practices with a diverse patient population. During these years, she has gained vast experience in taking care of patients ranging from sick to well, and is engaged in several urgent care cases.
Dr. Deepali did her Medical School, MD and postdoctoral degree in preventive and social medicine at Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences in India. She also managed critically ill patients in the pediatric ward and neonatal intensive care unit. Besides being in private practice; since July 2009, she has worked in urgent care clinics at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital (Stanford Hospital) and as a community pediatrician at Alameda County Medical Center. She was also involved in heart and antioxidant research at Stanford.
She enjoys taking care of infants, children and young adults and has expertise in well child care, vaccinations, breast feeding, allergy, asthma, eating problems and obesity in children. Dr. Deepali Lal is a welcome new addition.to Puri Pediatrics where she brings vast knowledge and expertise along with her experience in a private practice setting.
Remo Cerruti, MD, FAAP
Dr. Remo Cerruti is a native of the Fremont area. He attended Washington High School and received his college education at U.C. Berkeley. He would return home to help his father on the farm. He graduated from the UCSF Medical School in San Francisco, and completed his pediatric training at Children’s Hospital Medical Center of Northern California in 1965. Following a four-year tour of duty with the U.S. Air Force as a Pediatrician, he returned to Fremont to begin his career in a private pediatric practice in 1970, and continues to do so. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, and is a member of the National Organization of Pediatricians, the American Academy of Pediatrics. He has had leadership roles at Washington Hospital including Chair of the Department of Pediatrics and Chief of Medical Staff in the past years, and also had an administrative position at Washington Hospital. Currently he is a consultant, an educator, and a surveyor with the Institute for Medical Quality in California, an organization that licenses and provides accreditation for California Hospitals with the Department of Health Services of California and the Joint Commission for Accreditation of Health Care Organizations. Dr. Cerruti is married and his wife, a nurse in Fremont, continue to live in Fremont where they raised their five children. Two of his boys are twins and two of his sons are police officers in Livermore and Hayward. One of his daughters is a pediatrician in Southern California. His other son is in computer profession and other daughter has her master’s in psychology and currently is a full time mother at home. His other son specializes in computers.
Dr. Cerruti is very happy to be associated with his friends of longstanding, Dr. Hari and Dr. Veena, to provide the best pediatric care for their patients. Dr. Cerruti also co-authored a book on early parenting. He has received numerous awards; to name some; in 2005 was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by Nancy Farber CEO of Washington Hospital for his dedication and years of service to the community. He also received the Donald Widman Award for outstanding contribution to the Hospital Survey in 2002. In 2004, he received the Mindel Spiegel Award; a state award for outstanding award by Hospitals. His patients would say, “He brings practical involvement in patient care and decision making and he believes in being honest.” Dr. Remo Cerruti’s name is well known in Fremont and is probably is the best household name in Fremont. Some of our patients who see him best described him with the comments like, “I could tell how experienced and good he was as soon as he walked in the room and made my child and me feel instantly comfortable. His medical judgment is superb and personality and mannerism is excellent.” Dr. Cerruti's philosophy is that patients are part of their care and are extremely important in deciding care. Dr. Cerruti is truly an exceptional pediatrician and a legend of our times.
Hari Puri, MD, FAAP
Dr. Hari Puri has been practicing medicine in Fremont since 1987. Dr. Hari received his medical degree in 1967 from the University of Punjab in India, where he was a National Merit Scholar. He completed a residency in Pediatrics at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York, and is board certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Nephrology. As a U.S. Navy Commander, in addition to practicing pediatric medicine, he was instrumental in training new resident doctors in Pediatrics. Dr Hari completed a fellowship in Pediatric Nephrology, a study of kidney diseases in children, at the University of Oregon. He has published several research articles. He is also experienced in the treatment of behavior problems including attention deficit disorder (ADD) in children. He has given several talks in schools about ADD.
Dr. Hari Puri is very active in the community where he volunteers his time and services. He has organized and chaired five successful health fairs in Fremont and in neighboring cities. He believes in reaching out to the community and educating on important pediatric issues. From 1995 to 1997, he was the Chief of Medical Staff at the Washington Hospital and earlier was the Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics there. He was appointed by Governor Wilson to serve on the board of Health Profession Education Foundation to help give scholarships to those who demonstrate the need for financial aid and are interested in pursuing careers in the medical field. He was also the President of Association of American Physician of Indian Origin. Dr. Hari practiced family practice in Jalandhar, India before he came to the United States in 1972. He comes from a family of eight, and having been around extended families, he understands the dynamics of the family unit. As described by his parents he is a picture of confidence equivalent to grandparents of many of our patients. He brings instant comfort and gives reassurance to patients, the patients are looking for. His calm and gentle mannerism makes parents feel very much at ease immediately. He has humble qualities which makes everyone feel special. After the patients have seen him, they always feel he has given more than what they were looking for.
